Tackling Podoconiosis in Central America
Brighton & Sussex Medical School together with Footwork and the Guatemalan Centro de Estudios en Salud are developing an action-research network aimed at tackling podoconiosis in Central America. This action-research project, financed by the International Research Partnerships and Network Fund (IRPN, University of Sussex) will explore the extent to which podoconiosis is a neglected public health problem in Central America and will support endemic country control through the establishment of sustainable regional collaborations and evidence-based interventions. Initially, the network will explore the burden of podoconiosis in Guatemala and Costa Rica and aims to expand the network and associated research projects in other affected Latin American countries.
